Vilvite Science Conference in Bergen

Recently, VilVite's executive director Lars Leegaard Marøy had the pleasure of welcoming a record number of 120 delegates from 30 Nordic science centres to this year's annual NSCF conference. The event took place in Bergen, Norway, from the 22nd to the 24th of October.

As always, when science centres meet, the sharing of knowledge and experience is vital. With "Operations" as the theme of the year, we exchanged experiences around operational aspects such as maintenance and technical issues, shop issues, teaching, learning and marketing.

We enjoyed highly inspiring keynote speakers, several workshops and open sessions.

The two keynote speakers were:

Beth Hawkins, from SMG Academy Manager at London Science: Embedding science capital principles across the science centre.  She was talking about the importance of - and how - we can engage all of the community in science. She also spoke about the challenge that many do not connect the STEM activities they do at schools and science centres to everyday life.

Anders Beyer, CEO & Artistic Director of Bergen International: Lean Management and digitalisation to Improve Customer Experience. When he opened by asking "Hove to make art meet structure", we could hear from across the hall that this was a problem to recognise. Beyer showed how the Festival Games through working with LEAN and increased digitalisation had achieved better results

Excursions to Bryggen and Bryggeloftet where we could enjoy Bergen tradition and Norwegian cuisine.

We want to thank all the participant for your kind spirit and your sharing of knowledge and experience.

Nice meeting you all!

See you next year.
